Federal Tax Compliance for Churches

In this 3 hour training, Michael Batts will walk through the fundamentals of federal tax compliance for churches.  Topics will include protecting the church’s exempt status, excess benefit transactions, private inurement, private benefit, compensation-setting, conflicts of interest, and expense documentation requirements, unrelated business income, contribution acknowledgments, foreign grant-making, school nondiscrimination requirements, new hire reporting, and more.   

For August, we are once again not able to meet in person but we are going to be offering a virtual meeting via GoToWebinar.

BMWL will be hosting this virtual meeting and we will be sending you details on how to join this meeting in our membership emails.

Mike Batts is the managing partner of Batts Morrison Wales & Lee (BMWL) and leads their national headquarters office in Orlando as well as Dallas. Mike has more than 30

years of experience serving hundreds of nonprofit organizations in a variety of ways. Mike is a member and former chairman of the board of ECFA, an organization that accredits Christian organizations in the areas of board governance and financial integrity. Mike has actively engaged in nonprofit legislative matters at the federal and state levels. He has also authored several books.  Mike's newest book is entitled, Church Finances: The Church Leader's Guide to Financial Operations. He is a summa cum laude graduate of Stetson University, where he studied accounting.
